personal training and fitness expertise

When people sign up for personal training, they usually have some expectation of what's going to happen. The trainer's going to teach me how to use the machines, they think. She's going to give me a list of exercises and show me how to do them, and then I'll do them, and then I'll be in shape/ skinny/ buff/ fill in the blank.

THE REALITY

I'll only teach you, my client, how to use one machine. It's the only machine that you really need and should be the entire focus of your practice. It's your body, and as your trainer, I'll teach you how to make it move better, which will make it feel better. We'll focus on flexibility, stability, and strength. We'll find your weaknesses and imbalances, and we'll strengthen and correct. The pleasant side effect is that your body will look better, leaner, and more toned, provided the next step is taken.

THE KEY

Without proper nutrition, your body is simply unable to function optimally. So many people go through their days lacking energy, struggling with their weight and with a myriad of health issues, from poor digestion to aches and pains, breathing problems and poor sleep, and many don't make the connection that their diet is responsible. I'm already sick of your excuses, even if we've never met. I've heard them all. There's no excuse for treating your body like a receptacle that is neutrally affected by what you put into it. Your health is your responsibility, but I'm here to help. My goal is to help all of my clients, from the endlessly scheduled mother of four to the 50-hour-a-week executive, to bust through those excuses and make gradual, lasting changes in their nutrition. Those changes seem minor, but they can extend your life and make you feel better every day.

THE TEAM

As your trainer, I'll do everything I can to motivate you and make you excited about exercise. I'll give you ideas on how to eat better and still enjoy what you eat. But I'm only part of the equation -- the hard part is yours. The only way personal training will work is if you make a wholehearted commitment to your progress. I'll match your commitment and do whatever I can to help you be a success.
